Pre-Experience Assessment / Intake / Preparation

1. Readiness Assessment

A readiness assessment helps determine whether an individual is psychologically, emotionally, and physically prepared to undertake a psychedelic journey. This assessment often involves evaluating mental health history, current life circumstances, and personal goals. The key reasons for this step include:

  • Safety: Ensuring the person doesn't have any contraindications (e.g., certain psychiatric conditions, medications) that could make the experience unsafe.

  • Clarity of Intentions: It helps the individual clarify why they are pursuing the experience, whether for healing, self-discovery, or spiritual growth.

  • Assessing Emotional Stability: It ensures the person is in a place where they can handle challenging emotions or experiences that might arise during the journey.

2. Intake Call

An intake call is a deeper dive into the individual's background and intentions. It allows the facilitator or guide to:

  • Understand Personal History: Learn about the person’s life history, including past traumas, mental health issues, and previous experiences with these supplements.

  • Build Trust and Rapport: This helps create a safe and supportive environment for the journey, fostering trust between the participant and the guide.

  • Determine Expectations: Ensures alignment of expectations, so the person knows what the guide offers, and the guide understands what the participant hopes to gain from the experience.

  • Willingness to Trust the Medicine: The Sitter explains the importance and willingness to trust the medicine and the process.

  • Screen for readiness: If there are concerns about the individual's readiness or suitability, this call allows for further exploration before proceeding.

3. Pre-Journey Preparation Call

This call is focused on helping the individual prepare mentally, emotionally, and physically for the experience. Its key components include:

  • Setting Intentions: It helps the person refine their goals and reasons for undertaking the journey. Clear intentions can provide direction during the experience.

  • Discussing the Journey Process: Outlining what they can expect before, during, and after the session, including discussing potential challenges or difficult emotions that might arise.

  • Mindset Preparation: Helps the person cultivate the right mindset, emphasizing openness, curiosity, and non-resistance to whatever the experience brings.

  • Logistical Details: Practical aspects like fasting, supplement dosage, environment setup, what to bring and safety protocols are covered to ensure the experience is as smooth and supportive as possible.

These steps ensure a well-rounded preparation process, which is vital for maximizing the benefits of the journey while minimizing risks.
